The President and Members of the Panpaphian Association of America, under the auspices of Cyprus Federation of America announce that on April 24th and 25th and also May 2 of 2009 at 7pm will present the play “O XENOS” at the Hellenic Cultural Center in Astoria.
The play is authored by Cypriot American Debbie Riga and is directed by Andreas Tselepos. The story is about Nicholas, a Greek Cypriot immigrant living in New York City for thirty years. Having worked hard over three decades, Nicholas is finally able to afford airline tickets for himself and his two daughters on a flight back to Cyprus. He is driven by the belief that life on the island has not been touched by neither time, nor technology and progress and this is exactly what he wants his two daughters to experience. The family is about to discover how dramatically life has changed in Cyprus.
Through mistaken identities and family misunderstandings, “O XENOS” presents through an immigrant’s eyes the flip side of “development and progress” on the island and reflects deeply the disintegration of family values and the wave of consumerism that has gripped the world, Cyprus included.
Entrance ticket is $10. For further information you may contact the Panpaphian Association President, Mr. Michael Hadiloucas at (908) 227-5576 or Debbie Riga at (917) 576-1924, or the Hellenic Cultural Center at (718) 626-5111. |
