Cypriot champions APOEL FC lost 1-0 to London’s Chelsea in the second game of the Champions League group stage that took place on Wednesday night at Nicosia’s GSP Stadium.
Nicolas Anelka scored in the 18th minute, giving Chelsea an early lead in the game.
In the second half, APOEL played very well and had a couple of chances to make even.
The first chance to came in the 65th when Savvas Poursaitides' low shot was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech. Constantinos Charalambides almost shocked Chelsea with an equaliser in the 85th minute but his header missed the target.
It was Chelsea's second straight 1-0 win in Group D, giving it a perfect six points after two games. FC Porto beat Atletico Mardid 2-0 in the other group game to sit second on three points, while APOEL and Atletico have a point each.
